Dog Friendly Adventures Around Epping Forest

“Winter is Here” we’ve all seen the motto pop up on our TV’s recently but no, winter is not here, summer is, “Summer is Here!” Yay!

It’s the best time of the year to get out of the house and go exploring, especially if you have a four legged member of your family.

Knighton Wood and Lords Bushes

Here in Loughton we’re fortunate enough to be surrounded by the impressive woodland of Epping Forest. Of course, Epping Forest stretches much further afield as it sits on the border of Greater London and Essex. Due to its immense size, I’m unfortunately unable to cover all areas of dog friendly walking trails but here are a few. If you live North of the Thames then you may know these places, but if you reside South of the Thames and haven’t been, what are you waiting for!? There’s plenty for you and your dog(s) to discover in the big outdoors.

I’ve selected three walks but there are many more adventures waiting for you and your dog(s). Come and visit Epping Forest this summer!

The Beech Trail – Start at Pillow Mounds Car Park which is a marked circular route in Epping Forest. Follow the green arrows, or your dog’s nose, whichever you trust the most, towards Loughton Camp.

The Willow Trail – Start at Connaught Water Car Park. Head down the pathway towards the lake and out onto Chingford Plain, you’ll find plenty of places for your dog to meander, or it’s more likely your dog will find them but you can follow! You can then continue up to Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge and The View. You can also do this walk in reverse.

Connaught Water

After all that walking, refreshments will definitely be needed and luckily there is an abundance of dog friendly places you can visit locally.

The Larder at Butlers Retreat, Chingford – They don’t allow dogs inside the premises but there are tables outside where you can sit, have a coffee and enjoy the view.

Foresters Arms, Loughton – They have an outdoor area with benches and the inside of the pub is also dog friendly. They have doggy biscuits at the bar and will also give you a bowl of fresh water for your furry friend.

The Owl, Loughton – Lovely dog friendly pub with a large beer garden, they have onsite parking and even offer a doggy menu!

I hope you all enjoy the many wonders of Epping Forest and the surrounding areas as much as I do!

Happy exploring!
